Tuamotu-Gambier hotels & places to stay

We came here for our 30th Anniversary. Stayed in a beach bungalow. Resort is small and amenities so close and you get beautiful beach/water views hanging out at resort, really no need to pay the extra for a beach bungalow. Grocery store minutes away as well as several quaint restaurants within walking distance. Hotel food very good as well. Great snorkeling right at hotel. If you go to Rangiroa and don’t scuba dive, you are missing out in a wonderful experience.

The beautifully appointed and very clean single bungalow on their premises, the breakfasts :-) , the airport pickup, the Rhum "excursion", the mind-blowing and completely private beach next door, etc... Hinano and William are the most generous and lovely hosts. We arrived as strangers and we were treated like part of the family. Thank you!

We stayed in an Ocean breeze villa for 6 nights at Moana. The location was perfect, a 3 minute walk from Tiputa Pass where you can see dolphins every evening. The supermarket and restaurants were just another 5 minutes away. We received a 6 star service all the way from our airport pickup to drop off in helping us book tours to buying good quality pearls. Couldn't recommend this place any better. Will return to Moana when I return to Rangiroa.

We had a lovely stay at this very peaceful and beautiful place. Please note that the location is remote: it is a 30 to 45 minute boat ride from "town" and all the dive centers, etc. You can arrange boat transport with the hosts, but it is not as easy to dive from this location as opposed to places on the main atoll. Nonetheless, my kids dove twice and had a terrific time. I loved just being on the beach and in the water, and relaxing and reading. The hosts are very friendly and helpful. They cook all meals which are excellent.

The pension is rustic, and you will sleep under mosquito netting, but the customer service is excellent. Corinna and her crew took exceptional care of us. Our rooms were cleaned and the beds made on our second day. Our cost included breakfast and dinner. The dinners were excellent. They were homemade and made with fresh ingredients. I wish I could take those dinners with me on my travels. I like a modern setting (you won't find me camping), but I quickly got used to Paparara's setting; the common area with free wifi helped a lot. Corinna even took time out of her busy schedule to take one of my travelling companions to the medical centre. One day, as we emerged from snorkelling, my friend and I were called over and took part in a lesson on how to make coconut bread. This type of customer care is what made this one of the best locations during my travels in French Polynesia and Australia. My only regret is that I did not get to meet Ato (Corinna's husband).

We had a bungalow with very nice terrace with a beautiful lagoon view. The bungalow is simple (no TV but for us was a plus so kids went to see crab and fish instead watching TV!) and very clean. They are free bikes and kayak it is well located in the middle of the island. Olga was a great host taking us for groceries and gave us a tour of the island. This was the best value for money we had during our 4 weeks trip in polynesia.

Stayed at Hakamanu lodge just half of our stay in Tikehau and we whish it would have been the whole stay, was the closest experience to being in a paradise wild desert island in the middle of Pacific Ocean with all the commodities you need plus being surrounded by local charming people who will cook for you incredible food every night (maybe the fish you catched during the day). Much more affordable than the typical high class resorts and you wont miss anything you can find there. Highly recommended.

Paradise!!! The accommodation is located on a private Motu with wonderful beaches surrounding and see through crystal clear ocean. It is a very private and intimate place, very quiet and far from the world. If you are looking for piece and quiet far from the civilisation this is a place for you. For solo travellers can be boring as there isn't much to do but a perfect spot for couples. Vaiana the hostess is very friendly and looks after you very well. There are three dogs, all vey friendly and one of them called Lady will snorkel or swim with you and will escort you far into the sea always looking after you. It's not a five star accommodation so don't expect luxury just appreciate the paradise you're in. Yes the shower water is cold but on a hot day you'll get used to it. The toilet and shower are outside but it's ok because the whole place is very intimate and you don't need to worry that someone is watching you. Unfortunately there is no diving in Manihi anymore :-(

Totally exceeded my expectations. The host Jannie goes way above and beyond to make sure guests have the best time possible during their stay. She is a wonderful host and great cook. She is also very well connected with the other businesses on the motu so you can essentially use her as your sole point of contact to reserve any bookings for activities, restaurants, etc. In terms of the property, it is very clean, spacious, and charming. It is close to the airport, boat launch, store, and dive shops. Mosquitos are not an issue at miki miki lodge since it sits near the ocean so the breeze blows them all towards other pensions/properties that are located further inland. I highly recommend this pension as long as you don't have a large party since there are only 2 units each with one king bed.

We were already scheduled to stay 3 nights in Rangiroa at the Kia Ora hotel and spa and having and excellent stay... the night before we were to depart, we found out from the hotel reception that our flight to Tikehau (just a short 5 minute flight away) was cancelled - indefinitely! Apparently some airport firemen at the Tikehau airport went on strike and shut down all ability to enter OR leave this island! So we were not able to go to Tikehau (and about 100 unfortunate tourists were TRAPPED in Tikehau because they could not leave!)... luckily, we were able to book three more nights instead to stay at the Kia Ora hotel and in Rangiroa. It was such a delight to stay the extra nights-we got to do so much more than we would have because we had planned such a short stay originally. And the best part was the amazing staff there... Gerry, the manager was so kind to us.. Jean Michael in the restaurant... Grace in the front desk - i can't name them all because there were so many that made our stay special! We will be back and highly recommend! By the way... no other hotel on the island even comes close to the quality of Kia Ora - it's a no brainer if you're looking for a higher end resort!

This is a great low-priced alternative on the island. It is at the far end of the island, about 10km, from the hub of the tourist activity. Without taxis or buses makes it a bit difficult to access activities. But most tour operators will pick you up and you can always ride a bike. The owners are wonderful and the restaurant on the property serves huge portions at great prices. Facilities are very basic but neat and clean.
