Location in the market is great and there is a cachet to the exterior of the hotel. Staff also was very very friendly. However several things should be improved: rooms are nowhere as clean as they should be, variety and quality of food at breakfast are lacking, and there are barely any facilities in the room: no TV, no fridge, no hanger for towels, no coffee pot and not enough light to read.

I can't believe all the bad reviews this hotel gets. What do these people expect for 20 Rials? Buckingham Palace? This is a REALLY nice hotel. The first room I was shown had a window which opened onto the corridor, which I didn't like, so they gave me another and this room was perfect in every way. Big and spacious, spotlessly clean, comfortable bed, large HD satellite TV, nice bathroom, free wi-fi and a great free breakfast. Also the staff, especially the young Indian guy, are really friendly and speak excellent English. What more could you want? The only downside is the location, 5km from the centre of town. No problem if you have a car but if, like me, you rely on public transport your only option is taxis, but fortunately the share-taxis are cheap and plentiful. Otherwise, highly recommended.

Checked in early with no problem. Booked dinner and breakfast in the package as there are few opportunities for dinners up on the plateau. Staff very friendly and food was very good. The hotel is simple, but very adequate if travelling on a budget. It is in a great place to explore the plateau, near the start of some treks and just near the main road in. If you are not looking for pampering or luxury, this is a great option for the region. To get up there, you need a 4WD vehicle - checked by the police post at the bottom of the mountains. You are about one hour drive from Nizwa here.

Wondeful, we upgraded to a room as it was cold in the mountains, our room was lovely soft linens, ever so comfy beds, great room, lovely pool, the meals are simple but excellent, staff the most helpful and kind Ive ever met. coffee shop excellent..Position wonderful, the fire that the room boys lit for us in our fire pit was lovely watched the sun going down over the mountains..So peaceful. We managed the drive up there easily in our small hire car not 4x 4 it was definately worth trying to get there by car..Extra ordinary place to stay best for 3 nights.

We stayed in the hotel for one night only. We were travelling around north part of Oman - 7 adult people and 3 small kids- 1; 3.5; and 4.5 years old boys. Location was very good for us as we wanted to stay away from the city centre but close enough to get to the gaot market and fort in Nizwa. We booked 4 rooms and all of them were quite spacious. We were nicely supprised as rooms were much better then we expected looking on the pictures. All rooms were very clean and bath cosmetics and shower shoes were included in the room price. Restaurant in the camp was ok but we were not impressed with the food. There was a kids play area and nice parking. If I ever go to Nizwa I will look for the room in The Noor Majan Camp again.

Booked this hotel during our last visit to Jebel Akhdar with family. Had a night stay. The hotel is good for passing a night and expecting more then this would be over expectation. The rooms are big and clean. There is only one attendant who takes care of everything; right from confirming booked room to cleanliness. However, was welcoming and there was willingness in assisting the customers. One can book this hotel only for sleeping. There isn't anything more then this. Just would like to mention that even though the place is located in Oman but still lot of liquor consumption takes places specially by people of Indian origin and the ones coming from UAE, all over Jebel Akhdar. Therefore, in the hotel, you may come across few such customers who drink whole night and make noise.

Nice hotel interiors. Problem is they disagree to honour my Agoda Booking. They mentioned that they stopped relation with Agoda 2 years ago. Luckily the hotel was half empty, so we managed to get two rooms as we needed. Infact i got a cheaper rate than i got from Agoda, even though they saw the rate that i got from Agoda. Please remove this hotel from Agoda's listing, so that it wont confuse any future travelers.

We wanted to stay here for a while but it is in high demand and often booked out so when we finally secured a couple rooms we were very happy. We were not disappointed. The hotel location in the middle of the old Misfah Al Jebreen Village is perfect for a relaxing retreat as no cars are plowed in the village. The location amongst the palm trees is tranquil. Staff were super friendly and the rooms are very simple and traditionally furnished. We would go back anytime.

My husband and I are experienced travellers (I've been to more than 40 countries) and this was the first time we took a long-haul vacation with our 1 year old baby. Service: We were greeted on arrival by the manager (Mr. Anu) with some chocolates and our Agoda reservation was readily available from the receptionist. The best part was all the help we got from Mr. Anu to plan where to go not only in Nizwa, but in Oman. He even helped us with booking for the Turtle resort in Ras Al Jinz, which I thoroughly recommend as well. He is a very fine person who made a difference to our trip. Facilities: The apartment is spacious, it has an ensuite room with a large bed, a dining room, kitchen, another bathroom and a living room. The Wifi router in the room is a plus, very much needed for route planning for the sights around Nizwa as there is plenty to see. The kitchen is functional, there's a few pots and plates in the kitchen, would be nice if it had some cooking spoons and washing up soap and sponge (I am sure they would have given me one if I had asked). I cooked some veggies for my baby, it was convenient to have this option. Cleanliness: very clean facilities from reception to the bathroom. Location: it is a short drive (10 min or less) from the Nizwa fort. To tour this area it is needed to have a car, as there is no public transport available, the hotel is already on a main road. Food: breakfast was not included in our rate, we bought some groceries in the shop nearby (2 min drive) and also stopped in a cafe on the way to Jebel mountain. There is a restaurant in the hotel building, at first we were not impressed as it is in a basement with no windows and doesn't have 'character' in my opinion, so we ordered the food to the room, which arrived promptly and both the Indian curry and the shawarma were delicious! I thoroughly recommend this hotel.

Very well located for hiking and relaxing at Jebel Shams on an elevation of about 2000m. We’ve stayed 2 nights at a bungalow. Breakfast and Dinner is included. You have no choice to go anywhere else, because this area is very far from everything except nature. Both breakfast and dinner is served as buffet, with Softdrinks and coffee / team included. Guided tours can be booked. We did the sunset tour, only the guide we both with our daughter. Paid 5 per adult, nothing for our 11 year old. The young and friendly guide took us to a sunset spot we wouldn’t have found alone. Beautiful! He served traditional tea and we enjoyed the great scenery. The bungalow is simple but enough for short stays, but attention, the size in the description is wrong! It says 74 square meter. The room including toilet is around 24 m2. Even counting the terasse sums up to around 60 m2. Room was clean, bathroom simple. Attention. The last 10 km are rough and steep road, where you need a 4WD!

The staff at the Golden Tulip work really hard to make your stay there a great experience. For Oman, where most hotels open to foreigners are very expensive, the Golden Tulip offers great value. It has a lovely pool, which when the summer is on, is the best place to cool down. There is also a variety of bars, where you can have soft or alcoholic drinks - again not always available in Oman. The food, especially the curries, is great - in the evening the tandoor is working and the best curries are on offer. Definitely a great place to stay to visit Nizwa, Jebel Akhdar or Jebel Shams

Excellent location for sunsets and specially stargazers, no obstruction to open sky. Clean rooms and toilets ( we stayed in family room with 2 bedrooms). Hot water availabelity through out stay in month of Dec. Car be be driven and parked right next to your room which is excellent (please slecify during booking ad this is available knly to ine side of rooms) Good quality food, though limited choice on breakfast. Vegetatian food available.

We went to enjoy the mountains and explore and hike. We got the Chalet and were happy with it except for the beds, which are very firm. Bring sleeping bag, or air mattress and you will be much more comfortable unless you like a rock hard mattress. Also in cooler months and extra blanket would be useful, or use the small space heater which warms to room sufficiently. Beyond that the staff is very friendly and the manager Salem is super helpful and will also guide you on hikes if requested. We used the camp fire ares by our Chalet, each has one and cooked over it two nights, and really enjoyed the evenings relaxing after busy days exploring the mountains. We checked out the Jebel Shams Heights resort and the Jebel Shams resort both near the canyon. While I think the latter is a much nicer facility, Heights is much the same as Sunrise, however their location is more full of tourists and trash and busy, while Sunrise is by itself, no cell reception once you get to the resort however on most roads leading to it cell service was fine. We felt the mountains and canyons around Sunrise much more beautiful and colorful than the other resorts. We will return, and explore more as there is so much to see. If you go and like to climb ask Salem to show you the way or guide you up the mountain next to the resort, and go up and over to the right and you can stand right on the edge of a huge gorge. Really amazing climbs and views and right at your back door.

Get ready for a traditional experience here and it should rightly be what you seek for when you come to the rural towns of Oman! All payments are by cash, no cards. Toilets are shared, just like in the past/traditional villages, but are impressively kept clean! Meals are homecooked and rooms come with clean, soft, individually packed towels, bar soaps and shampoo sachets. There are communal hangout areas and rooms are tastefully decorated. Abdullah the owner used to be from the army, and is well travelled and you can see this international experience in the standards he maintains for this hospitality inn. If you are in Nizwa, it's a waste NOT to be here!

we decided to come here as the pictures looked great, and they had one night free, we would have stayed for two. the place is just amazing if you are looking for peace, cooler temperatures (it was 22 at night, 28 during the day, while it was 45 in Dubai). we arrived around 1pm from Mizfah and settled on the terrace, making a cup of coffee, and eating some dates, there were plenty of fresh fruits as well. the owner arrived and took us along to see the lamb they had cooked for 24h buried in the ground, we also got a plenty of it to eat right now ... being vegetarian was not an option. we just relaxed until they brought us dinner in little boxes, we enjoyed the silence and the stars before going to bed. next morning Mohamed took us for a few hours hiking to the other houses in the valley. back we took a shower and left back to Dubai .... an amazing place to stay for a couple of nights, hike, enjoy the silence, the solitude, and the Omani generosity. On arrival we were informed of a room change. This was because we were offered a room more in line with the hotel's features rather than our personal request. Also agoda failed to describe the rooms correctly. We agreed to the change but didn't get more from it other than easier access to the pool area. The outdoor pool itself was cold (in November) which seems strange given the solar radiation available and an ambient temperature of 28degC. The jacuzzi was warm and therefore more popular with the few guests. Especially as it is positioned immediately in front of the view over the mountainside terraces. The view is the best feature. I'm not sure why a luxury hotel would offer pommes frites with almost every choice at dinner. Otherwise the food was alright, if slightly on the expensive side for Oman. Good and varied breakfast. The staff were very friendly and tried hard to accomodate. Highlight was a massage as an extra by a very professional and competent therapist.

It`s easy to get from hotel to Jabal Shams for amazing offroad sightseeing. We booked 4 rooms and all of them were quite spacious and light. Generally the rooms were clean but they need some renovation. There was a restaurant in the hotel and food was ok. Very nice kids play area and good parking. Staff was very nice and helpful. We arrived to the Hotel in the middle of the night and there was a local man waiting for us. He didn`t know English but we didn`t have any problem with comunication (body language is international :)) Day staff - perfect English. If I ever go to Al Hamra I will look for the room in The Al Hoota Rest House again. Don`t forget a sleeping bag in the winter time as it`s cold upthere. You will need 4WD car to get there and for unforgetable trip in the mountains.

Everything about this hotel was perfect. The views from the rooms were breath taking. The beds were very comfortable. The service was fantastic. The food was excellent. Honestly it was one of the best hotels I have ever stayed in. The kids loved the pool and never even went to the kids club (that probably would have been great). When we checked out the receptionist asked my 7 year old son what mark out of 10 he would give. He said 2000 and probably was not far off.

As part of our farewell to the Middle East, we decided to visit Oman as funny enough, it was only on of the few countries we had not visited, whilst having spent over 20 years as part of my work. We decided to go to Muscat and friends of ours made us aware that on our way we should visit Nizwa. Looking on the sites we found the Alila Jabalpur Akhdar hotel and booked a room for one night. It was not easy to find as the hotel just opened and are still waiting on approval to put on the signs going up the mountain. Although missing twice the right turn, asking the locals regularly helped us getting to the resort. You are immediately overwhelmed by the shear beauty of the setting and how well it blends in. We found out that the hotel just opened a week before and the rooms were immaculate. Only the best materials and a lot of effort to get the locals involved as part do a sustainable development project. despite the fact that it was relatively new, Alila uses experienced staff from other Alila hotels to set up the business. The two Dutch and one Irish/Omani senior staff, certainly made a lot of effort to make the visitors make welcome. A shame we could not stay longer but we will be back and I will definitely recommend this awesome hotel to any of my friend. Pictures cannot describe enough the beauty and you have to go there to experience Robert Tinkhof
