Located in heart of Shanghai
Loved it”
We loved this property. Located in the heart of Shanghai, close to pedestrian street, across from People's Square (and several Metro stops) and about 30 mins walk to the Bund, the Pacific was perfect for our stay. It's a tiny bit on the musty side but that's because it's an old hotel and, we feel, has all the charm of a stately home instead of a modern high rise. We actually gasped when we saw our room as we were not expecting such a very large space, complete with wood panelling, large bathroom (with bath), flat screen TV and enormous, very comfortable bed and pillows. We had no view but it didn't really matter as the room itself was so comfy we almost didn't want to leave. The staff were helpful (except for those in the lobby bar who closed the place at 12:35pm when it advertised being open till 1am (then told us that was an "old sign") and most people were very helpful and spoke enough English to communicate with us. We also found the airconditioning in the room to be very weak (or non existent) which made it a bit stuffy. One word of warning if you want a taxi. We asked to have one booked and went downstairs to find nobody had done anything. Someone accompanied us to the street to flag down a cab but we ended up going to the Radisson next door which was more helpful. Overall, however, we were extremely happy with the Pacific and it stands out as one of our favourite hotels during our trip to China.

Need to work on internet service”
Users of this website should be informed that the hotel's name in Chinese is Jin Men Da Jiu Dian, and it's kind of dumb that that information is not very prominently displayed for users of this booking service. Pacific/Jin Men is on N side of People's Square, opposite an entrance to a Metro station serving three Metro lines. Easy to get anywhere from here. No need to rely on taxis (of which there is often a shortage). Around the corner is a food street, Huang He Lu, plenty of good cheap restaurants and street vendors. I assume the pricing of this hotel will always suffer from being next door to the big shiny Radisson; I would rather stay at Pacific Hotel anyhow. One drawback to the location: the part of People's Square immediately opposite is used sometimes by a group of old Communists who come out and sing revolutionary songs off-key in a kind of open-air karaoke. I was here both for business and (at end of stay) for a family vacation, and the room was suitable for both purposes. Service was attentive, English at the desk was high-quality, housekeeping was friendly and thorough. The porters could have been a bit more accommodating about storing bags on my last day, but the reception desk saw to my needs. The bar was a nice, albeit overpriced. (I didn't eat at the Pacific Hotel but this website requires a number. You can't argue with Javascript, thus I have submitted a meaningless 3.) While I was here I suffered from a terrible internet connection that cost me hours of my time. I didn't bother asking for help from the hotel staff, because I believe it was a provider problem.

Excellent location, value for money”
i stayed in the hotel from Dec 25-Dec 30 and i must commend the staff for their friendliness. The hotel's location is also excellent as it is near the People's Square Station (Line 2) which is a major interchange as it connects to two other lines. Line 2 also connects directly to some major attractions such as the Bund, Pudong, the Maglev station, Pudong International Airport, etc. You can also just walk all the way to the Bund via East Nanjing Road, the Shanghai Museum, Shanghai Grand Theatre, etc so really very excellent location. I will definitely stay in this hotel again!

Excellent traditional hotel, very well located. ”
I would highly recommend the Pacific hotel for anyone looking for something a bit different from the norm Crowne plaza/Renaissance/Marriott/Holiday Inn crowd. It retains a very traditional feel and is in an excellent location to explore People's Square and the Bund. It is opposite People's Square metro exit 8 and taxis are also easy to catch directly outside the hotel. I paid an extra 100RMB on arrival to upgrade to a larger room with city views. In my opinion it was well worth the money. The room is much larger, has wooden floors and wooden paneling throughout (and so did not smell of smoke).

Excellent Hotel”
hotel style classic, beautiful, comfortable, spacious room, great location. it is right in the center, on the west nanjing road, the hottest street in shanghai. staff helpful and efficient. from pudong airport, the metro is very cheap: costs 7 yuan and takes 1 hour to travel the 50 km. go to people's square station and get off at exit 8 (not to be confused with line 8): the hotel is across the street. if you want you can go by maglev that costs 40 yuan and takes 7 minutes to arrive at the longyang rd station. than take the subway to people's square station. from the hotel you can walk to the the bund and then cross the river by boat for 2 yuan and see the city from the top of the pearl tower or the world financial center.

Clean Hotel, Good Service & Great Location”
Front desk staff are friendly and competent. Doormen are also very helpful. Plenty of eateries around hotel especially along Huanghe Lu. Subway (People's Square) right opposite hotel making travelling around Shanghai very easy. The only minus point is their not so fast internet connection. Otherwise we are very happy with our experience with Pacific Hotel. I will definitely come back to this hotel on my next trip to Shanghai.

Excel location, nice clean but small rooms”
We spend 2 night. Worth it for the money we paid. Closed to mrt, nanjing pedestarian rd, madame tussauds Spend a whole day using city sightseeing bus only for 30 RMB and ticket valid for 24 hours and multiple ride. Convenient, flexible and fun. This the way how to see Shanghai. Shanghai urban planning exhibition hall, art museum, nanjing rd, century square, garden bridge the bund, huangpu river cruise terminal, shanghai old street, city god temple and yu yuan garden, site of 1st national congress of chinese communist party, xintiandi taiping river, huaihai rd, pudong tv tower, shanghai financial centre.

Great location!”
Loved the fact that this is not a chain-style hotel, its history, and, of course, all the amenities including heated mirror, heated toilet seat with water jets, and efficient ordering of airport transport. Great location in heart of Shanghai. Lots of inexpensive massage places behind the hotel. To get to the Pacific from Pudong airport just take the subway, line 2, to People's Square. There are multiple exits from the subway to choose from: take exit #8 as this is directly across the street from the hotel entrance.

Historical Hotel with Great Location”
The Pacific Hotel is a magnificant old building in a fabulous location. The subway opposite the hotel, the paedestrian street at the end of the block and many local restaurants around the corner. Also possible to walk to The Bund. We found the hotel service to be excellent and the rooms were good. We had 2 rooms and one of them was huge with a view to Peoples park. Would recommend.

Awesome location”
This is the best location you can have in Shanghai. People square is opposite to the hotel along with the metro station. On your left is famous Nanjing Road and the Bund. All the shopping and eating joints are just few meters away. On your left is Nanjing west with all branded showrooms. Best place, nice comfy rooms. Will surely visit again.

colonial style room in the modern shanghai”
this is the first time staying in this hotel, follow by a recommendation of my shanghai friend. indeed, its good, right across metro line 2, and peoples square is just 5mins away. the room is british colonial style design, with very good bed, but personally felt its too soft. if only this hotel with gym, than it would be perfect. ps: i booked 2 rooms, one for myself and another for my friend, so pardon me for copy and paste review cheers and enjoy your stay guys.

Superb ambience in a great locale”
This great old hotel was originally "The Golden Gate" built in the 1920s in grandiose Italianate style .After a rough few years it's back - beautifully renovated but the poorly chosen name of "Pacific" gives no hint of its beauty and historic interest. Get a room overlooking the Peoples park and Nanjing Road if yoou can but all rooms are huge and gracious with big tubs and good showers. Metro stops- several lines ,right across the street so everything is close.Walk thru the park to the Museums or down Najning Road to the Bund.

The hotel is good i like the old style this hotel has a special designe and the staf is also good some of them on the reception anyhow my stay in that hotel was great, near evrything you can find all the mall very closed to it the people square is very famous in shanghai. i get only 1 badcase that i was obliged to extend my stay for 1 day more it was not 1 day their rule the check out should be done at 12pm and my plane was on 11.30pm if i need to check out at 6pm they will charge me the half day and more than 6PM they will charge m the hall day i have prefer to charge me the hall day to stay and have a time to take a shower and go to catch my plane at 11.30PM why i am telling that that to extand this day they have charge me 3 TIME MORE THAN AGOODA AS I HAVE DO THIS DAY WITH THE HOTEL DIRECTLY IT IS CRAZY.THIS IS WHY IF YOU NEED TO EXTEND DAY MORE DO THAT WITH AGODA NOT DIRECTLY WITH THE HOTEL. i have try to do that when i was in the hotel 1day before with agoda it was impossible to do it as the hotel was full. i recomend this hotel it is very special good stay in shanghai

Great location, big rooms needs some TLC”
Located at Exit 8 from Peoples Square Metro Station places the Pacific Hotel at the crossroads in Shanghai. Lots of places to go after dark nearby, and on Nanjing Road West for day time shopping etc. and access by metro and taxi is great. Hotel is clean, spacious and historic built in 1924, however the staff have no english so you need a guide book with Mandarin characters for the taxi driver. Had a superior twin and its was huge, with good stocked fridge and fresh water each day. Cleaners did a minimum of cleaning and no vacuuming of the floor in a week. For the price and location I would stay again.

Centrally located authentic Chinese hotel”
I've stayed at the Pacific hotel many times and have lately upgraded to a better room which has been a very beneficial thing to do. I will stay at this hotel again as it is a very good hotel in many, many ways. After arriving in ShangHai after a 14 hour flight, metro line two to People's Square, and then exit 8 is right across the street from this hotel. 1.25 hour metro from Pudong airport to he hotel at a cost of 7 rmb, a little over $1 USD. Beats a 200 rmb taxi...

the hotel is perfect for tourists - its near many sights around peoples square such as the shanghai and urban planning museums, the fake market (5 minutes walk) and east nanjing road shopping (also 5 minutes walk). there are 3 metro lines from the adjacent metro station. the lobby is full of character, the room a lovely wood panelled space with plenty of space in the room and bathroom (equipped with bath and shower). good english spoken.

Good location hotel with plenty of amenities ”
Pacific hotel is in a very convenient location and is helpful for first time visitors to Shanghai. One can move around Shanghai easily with many taxis plying infront of the hotel and the metro lines (line 1, 2 & 8) are just right across the road in People Square. You can shop til you drop in nearby Nanking Street and there are many eating outlets in a food street nearby or the foodcourts in the shopping centres in Nanking Street.

Great Location”
The room size is big and comfortable bed. The best thing is the relaxing arm chair with foot stole. Bathtub and separate shower stand. But we got no views as our room faces the inside of a small courtyard surrounded by other blocks. Rare to see ceilings of lobby with cravings and very antique glass rotating doors(building was built in 1926). Overall staff service are good, clean room and very convenient. 2mins walk to the pedestrian mall at East Nanjin Rd and opposite exit 8 of People's Square subway. About 15mins walk to the Bund. Plenty of taxis and food outlets. Hotel is one door away to Radisson Hotel.
