The Perfect Host”
Norman's B&B is located just a short walk from the rear entrance of Hualien train station. It is spacious, comfortable and immaculately clean. Norman speaks English. He and his wife are very helpful and accomadating. He even picked us up in the midfle of a rain shower from the restaurant where we had been eating dinner. Norman hooked us up with a fantsatic taxi-tour guide to see the Tarokko Gorge. Ms. Chen speaks English very well and is incredibly knowledgable about Tarokko and the region in general. The gorge - especially with Ms. Chen - is a must see! Thank you Norman, thank you Ms. Chen!

Great B&B but beware of the weather”
Thanks to the terrible weather, we stayed in Norman's B&B longer than we planned. Thus we had a chance to get to know the owners who are really very nice. We got a room for four for the price of the double room, so definitely a lot of value for the money. The place is new, clean and spacious. The owner pays A LOT OF attention to little details so the facilities are sturdy and good quality. Suggestion: if you are coming by train and carrying luggage, and Norman drives over to pick you up, meet him at Front Station since it's usually so much less a walk. IMPORTANT: You never know what weather you will get treated with in Hualien, so always choose "free booking cancellation" option - and be ready to reschedule your trip - or you might end up coming to the East Coast in vain like we did, running into typhoon Aere.

Very helpful owner”
The guest house is just 5 minute walk from the rear entrance of Hualien train station. The room is very spacious with big beds and it even has a veranda. The owners were very informative and very helpful, the wife even help us get train tickets for our return trip to Taipei for the next day since we were not able to reserve return train ticket for Taipei. She also help us get a very nice and informative taxi driver/tour guide to Tarako. The next day, the owner even drive us to the train station even if it's very early in the morning

Room is very big and clean. Mrs. Norman had given us info of Hualien readily and given us ride to the city and to the train station to catch our train.

Extremely clean room”
The room is extremely clean and in good conditions. I must carefully handle all the electrical appliances and furniture to make sure not to damage it. The landlady drove us around to visit temple and hospital and school run by Tzu Chi Foundation since she know we are religiously Buddhist. The location is in Hualien City and only 5 minutes walk from train station.

Great b&b. Will definitely book this when i return to Hualien next time”
The room was very clean and spacious enough for the 6 of us. The nice aunty taking care of the b&b was very friendly, approachable and introduced us to many great places for food. A one-way transport was provided each day to wherever we wanted to go by her husband, another kind uncle. They made Hualien a very enjoyable place for us and we were regretful that we had to leave after 2 nights. One small problem was the seemingly faulty aircon that sometimes switches off on its own or start blowing warm air instead. But otherwise, everything felt comfortable and right at home. Thank you very much for the wonderful stay!

Would Happily Return”
Everything was excellent including the modern... well, everything. Norman arranged transportation to the Taroko Gorge for us with English speaking taxi driver 'Georgy. She too is a 5 star find! A five minute walk from the train station but use the station's rear entrance. A map for the area was provided and all advise was helpful. The free breakfast was available at two very close restaurants and though we only tried the one that too was very good. One complaint: At the hotel and at the restaurant none of the coffee was black but came with milk and/or sugar. A minor complaint.

It was so clean and kind accommodation at Houlian”
I stayed only 1 night at Houlian and it was close to train station and Norman(name of owner)is able to speak in English so easy communication at the accommodation. Owner provides brief guide about town and even take you to the downtown by his car. This service provides if you stay there. Room was very modern and clean. And the Price is really reasonable.If I visit Houlian again, I will stay there again and I'd like to recommend here to my friends confidently. It's was so nice memory to have stayed there.

I stayed at Norman's with a group of 4. The owner is the kindest, most hospitable person, and he has a good grasp of English. The residence is beautiful, clean, and very close to the station. I will definitely stay here again on my next trip to Hualien!

We had the most enjoyable stay here, due not only to the well-appointed and comfortable facilities, but also because of the welcome we received. Our host, Norman, assisted us in booking a day tour to Taroko Gorge, and, and went so far as to offer us restaurant recommendations the evening we arrived and then drove us to one of these. Couldn’t recommend more highly.

Norman and his wife were very helpful and kind. Norman took us to the train station so we could get the bus to Taroko. He gave us tips and let us keep our bags when we went to Taroko. I definitely recommend.

Relatively comfortable stay”
Pros: washing machine, kitchen which the owner kindly allowed us to cook dinner, our family of 3 booked a quad room which was spacious Cons: no lift had to lug our bags up to 3rd floor (we were aware there was no lift when we made booking), mosquitoes and small cockroaches in our friend's room. For the price paid I would say the stay was ok. I had read a lot of great reviews prior to booking so decided to give it a try even though there was no lift. I may have over expected.

Good Location, Friendly Owner and Nice and Clean Room”
Very impressed with the size of the room and cleanness. The owners are very nice and friendly. The hostess even drove us out to introduce surroundings. We booked a car for 1 day from them to visit the national park. The host was the driver. He was also an excellent guide. We had a very pleasant 2 days there.
