Excellent resort and great for the entire family. I would not settle for anything less. A definite 5 star facility. The hot springs were awesome and the Club Rio excursions were fun. Food was expensive though. I wish they offered an all inclusive price.

We ended our Costa Rica trip here, and loved coming to a modern, clean, beautiful place. The surrounding area is old, and a bit dirty (it's downtown San Jose), yet this is a little Oasis of greatness right in the middle of everything that you can see in San Jose (as there's not too much to see). Staff was very friendly, and the Hotel itself was quite nice.

Westin playa conchal Stay from 1/9-1/14 Room overrun by ants - asked them to spray but that didn't do anything. Ants were all over the sink and the wall. Tried to use our own spray which helped some but ants were back all over by the end of the week Got food poisoning on the first night that landed me in my room the whole next day. Didn't give us the Costa Rica res...

It was not good the first night. We had to stay in the handicap room after we booked a suite. It was very awkward and we were there on our honeymoon, but for work at the Walmart Expo. We literally did not even want to be there the first night. We had a bunch of work to do before our event and were extremely tired and only had a small desk and did not even supply a ...

Everything was excellent, except for the fact that we had phoned a day ahead to ask if we could leave some of our luggage at the hotel for 2 nights before our stay while we headed up to the volcanoes and were told that it definitely would not be a problem. Upon arriving we were told that was not true and that we would not be able to leave the luggage there. We did end ...

I enjoyed the stay here! great views from the hills, and there is a driving path to the top of the property with amazing views. Good breakfast and the hot tubs and slides are alot of fun. Tiles in the bathroom were broken and the bathroom needs an update, not bad but old

They didn't have a standard room ready so they upgraded us to business class. The staff spoke good English and were helpful when we asked them for assistance. We ate at the resturant and the food was superb. I would thoroughly recommend this hotel.

Pool was so freezing that our kids cried. We had reserved 2 nights based on the pool so was a major disappointment. The gym only had 3 pieces of equipment and a few weight balls. Would be nice to have another treadmill (we waited multiple times) and some free weights. The staff was amazing- very helpful and friendly. The breakfast is also one of the best I’ve seen as f...

The rooms a spacious und very clean, we srayed with our two kids 9 and 12 at the 10th floor with a great view on San Jose. The highl for our boys was definitely the indoor pool on the third floor. Of all included breakfasts in Costa Rica during our three weeks journey this one was absolutely the best.

FIRST time staying at Hotel Mango. Chose it because of close proximity to SJO Airport as my sister had an early morning flight the next day. We had stayed up the street at the Holiday Inn Express upon arrival to San Jose and liked the location but decided to find something more affordable. Hotel Mango is a smaller, gated property. Much more quaint and Tico style t...

My girlfriend and I enjoyed our stay in Jaco for 4 night and we got lucky with the weather. Jaco Laguna Resort was only satisfactory compared to our hotel in Manuel Antonio. I thought that the JLR was okay, nothing great, nothing terrible. PROS: - SUNSET, SUNSET, SUNSET. Did I mention the SUNSET. - Location on south end of Jaco's beach with calmer waters and nice sof...

Hyatt Hotels are always nice, but I was truely empressed with this one. It was located in a great plaza with lots of nice restaurants and other facilities nearby. Everything was excellent except that the orange and pineapple juice at the breakfast bar was not made from fresh fruit and tasted terrible!

This place is a place you dont want to leave. Very friendly and helpful staff. Great view. Very good breakfast. Large rooms, good beds.... everything is perfect. But the best: They can take you on horseback riding tours, ATV tours, night walks with their own staff using their own facilities. One of the best hotels I stayed inn for many years. I recommend staying there...

Cannot beat the views - each room, situated at the base of the volcano offers stunning views. Rooms were much larger than appears in photos. Amazing service from staff - have never been treated so nicely and professionally. Very secure - gated security at entrance. Close to major attractions. I absolutely loved everything about this hotel. From the dedicated and outrageously helpful staff, to the fantastic little cottage with a massive clean bathroom with loads of space to put your toiletries.. the hot water was HOT and the pressure excellent. They proved a hair drier which was so helpful. I loved my room, two double beds and a good sized fridge and plen...

We are huge fans of AM resorts (Dreams, Secrets, etc.) and Costa Rica. This is our 3rd visit to this beautiful country and its kind sweet people. . Imagine our disappointment... This resorts is incredibly mismanaged. The workers in their majority look unhappy which probably explains the poor quality of service we received. The food and liquor are below the company stan...

Brought our 1 and 3 year old and loved breakfast, walks to the beach and coming back to a refreshing pool. The staff more professional than at any establishment we've seen in Costa Rica. Restaurant had reservations! That's a great sign for a place off the beaten path. It is quite the scene. They could use an easier high chair, but that's all I can say! It was great!

If you're staying a night in Liberia to rest up from your travel day... it's perfect. they pick you up from the airport and the son was waiting for me at the outside gate. the family is very pleasant, the rooms very clean and had all the things you need for a night... a/c, fan, cable, hot showers... and the villa is only 1km from the central park area. they even have a...
Cheap places to stay in Costa Rica

The staff are very welcoming and can help with most any question or comment, be it weird or sane. The location can't get any better for both beach and park. Even if you want party, maybe 10 mins up the hill you have it. Really clean, the dorm room felt heavenly both nights there. The kitchen is a most wonderful addition to this place too.

We stayed at Hostel Cattleya for 2 nights and it was great. Jonathan was very helpful and provided loads of suggestions of things to do and a very detailed map of the area. He helped us book our tours and onward transport too. The room was basic but clean and comfortable. The kitchen has recently been renovated and it is amazing! I would definitely recommend that you s...

The guesthouse was clean, comfortable, chill & fun. By far the best thing about Pura Visa Mini Hostel are the staff, extremely knowledgeable about the country, accommodating, kind, helpful, friendly & fun. The dorms were clean & comfortable & the main social deck area is set up with beanbags & rocking chairs to sit or snooze in. Its close to the beach and with in...

super friendly staff that was more than willing to help out whenever I asked. I stayed in the single room which was clean and comfortable but had a kind of musty smell to it but it is an old building. They offer coffee in the morning and it is attached to a really yummy restaurant called The Corner - definitely stop by for breakfast you will not be disappointed. Ki...

The photo is a little deceiving considering it is missing the lamp post, utility box etc outside the building on the corner. It is also on a very busy intersection in the downtown core. (Something to be aware about if booking for a family). Our stay there, was very pleasant. For being a busy hostel it was relatively quiet, all patrons were respectful of the "quie...

I am stayed in a double room for 2 nights and thought the standard was great for the price paid. Rooms are clean, comfy beds and good showers. There's also free coffee and the kitchen facilities were great and well used by guests. The gardens are absolutely beautiful, you can see iguanas and toucans there if you're lucky. The staff are also fantastic and cannot do enou...

We spent there 3 nights during Christmas - very busy time. The guy on the reception answered all our question and booked all the activities before we arrived to make sure that we got places during busy time. The room is clean, hor watter. Very close to the time. Kitchnen with all the equipment and drinking watter. Games 😀

We stayed in hostel plinio for 2 nights to visit Manuel Antonio national park. The pool and communal areas were nice and it was handy having a kitchen. Breakfast was very good and the staff were helpful! However we think that it is a quite overpriced hostel for what you get as it is fairly basic yet costs similar to more luxury accommodations. Also we would suggest pay...

Beautiful hostel surrounded by nature. Location is perfect if you have a car. If not, then you will have to walk 2km from the bus stop, with part of the path going really up, especially if you carry a backpack! Breakfast for 7USD is also worth it. Would definitely have stayed if it had been more central

Pros. Great location walking distance to supermarket, restaurants in town, restaurant inside hotel, coffee, hammocks, pool table. Kitchen. We stayed in one of the two bungalows. I appreciate that they shut the lights and music off at 9:30pm. Cons. Hot water in women’s shower only(why?) one of the two beds in our bungalow the mosquito net which was needed was way to sh...

Stayed over ten nights at this super-clean, brand new hostel in a private room (one with the floor to ceiling windows overlooking the pool/water slide). Fantastic sunset views from the room or hammocks on the top floor. Perfect location for learning to surf, as the beach break is friendly and there's an assortment of boards to be rented for $10/day. Cheerful young s...

Rooms are small but had everything I needed. Completely updated and clean. Worth more than the price. I stayed in other hotels across the area that were way more expensive but were awful dirty places. Staff was great. I didn’t eat there but the lil garden cafe is adorable and the menu looks great. My only complaint is that they were doing construction that started at ...

Location was incredible, tucked away in the cloud forest. The staff was top notch and the tours were amazing. We loved the casitas and the resort grounds. The resturant also had a variety of home grown options. Be sure to bring snacks if you don't want to eat at the restaurant. As there is nothing in walking distance. Perfect for a jungle retreat! ++breakfast was also ...

What a wonderful stay we had here! Words cannot describe how beautiful this place is. The view is amazing! We saw a lot of tucans from outside our room. The room is amazing, clean and very spacious. The bed is probably the best bed we slept on our intire trip. It is so special to wake up in the middle of the jungle with all the jungle noises. Last but not least Michell...

Having read a couple of the more recent reviews, I was slightly apprehensive about our 1 night stay in Turrialba. I cannot stress enough how much you should ignore any bad reviews of the place and especially of Mark and Annabel the hosts- they are up there with the some of the most lovely and helpful people we’ve come across. Seriously, I can’t imagine any bad experien...

This hotel is a good option for those on vacation, mainly if you travel with your family. Location is good, since it's on a walking distance to downtown. Also nice to have a swiming pool and free internet. However, it's not a good option for business travelers: too noise. If you need a comfortable bad, also not the best option.

This is not a 4+ star hotel, and I'm very surprised at the ratings overall. The hotel is located at the south end of Jaco, which is more quiet than being in town, at the expense of requiring a taxi to go back and forth for restaurants, etc. The hotel is dated and feels it. It is right on the beach, and the pool is ok (not great, not bad). The staff are very helpful...

I had a wonderful stay though it was only an overnight. Situated in a local neighborhood location that you feel you are really in a different place. The night was so relaxing, internet access was very fast. The staff are very helpful and friendly. I will definitely recommend this hotel to my friends and family and will definitely be the place where I will stay when I c...

For travelers who prefer not to drive, public transportation is a viable option. Costa Rica boasts a reliable bus system that connects major cities and tourist destinations. Buses are generally affordable, comfortable, and a great way to meet locals. The Interbus service offers shuttle options for tourists, providing a more direct route to popular attractions. Additionally, taxis and rideshare services are available in urban areas, offering a convenient way to navigate cities like San José.
For a unique experience, consider taking a boat taxi to reach remote destinations, especially in coastal areas or around the numerous islands. This allows you to enjoy the beautiful scenery from the water and can be a fun adventure for families. No matter your preferred method of transportation, Costa Rica offers various ways to explore its natural beauty and vibrant culture, ensuring an unforgettable journey.

Practical Information for Travelers
Before embarking on your Costa Rican adventure, it's essential to have practical information to ensure a smooth journey. Travelers should check visa requirements based on their nationality, as many countries enjoy visa-free entry for stays of up to 90 days. It's advisable to keep a copy of your passport and important documents in a safe place, as well as have a digital backup.
The local currency is the Costa Rican colón (CRC), and while credit cards are widely accepted in urban areas, it's beneficial to carry cash for smaller establishments and markets. Currency exchange services are available at airports and banks, and ATMs can be found in most towns. To stay connected, consider purchasing a local SIM card or using international roaming plans, as Wi-Fi is available in many hotels and cafes.
Health and safety are also important considerations. Costa Rica is known for its high standard of healthcare, but travelers are encouraged to have travel insurance that covers medical emergencies. Vaccinations are not mandatory, but it’s wise to consult with a healthcare provider about recommended immunizations. Lastly, staying hydrated and using sunscreen is crucial, especially when exploring the outdoors.
