Traveling to Laos? Find Muang Khong hotels

The so called owner " Matthew. " and his Lao wife were as miserable as could be. Matthew had this Perpetual glazed look and red eyes entirely the time I stay there. He was unkept reeked of booze had fall down injuries on his head and arms. as the town is so small I saw him around and about perpetually drunk or stoned whichever was the more likely. The swimming pool area was delightful. breakfast was good and the staff were excellent. If it weren't for the owners I would have enjoyed my stay.

Don Khon is a laid back island where we extended our stay to while away even more nights. We moved to this hotel because it had air conditioning and good wifi (for Laos). While significantly more expensive than our previous accomodation the free breakfast and feeling of security offset the difference considerably. The owner and team here are friendly and helpful. The management team are effective, attentive and efficient especially by Laos standards. We didn't feel the need to complain, but was disappointed that the two times we got our laundary back it was damp and therefore we needed to hang out to dry on our veranda. Only a small thing and not a reflection on the rest of the service. Efficient and polite housekeepers clean and restock your room daily with water and towels (if you need them). We would highly recommend this hotel if you have the budget, it is an excellent option for whiling away lazy days in relative comfort.

We arrived here by chance, just following the Mekong, sunrise side. Then the building retained my attention, as the architecture is particular, modern and exotic, like a mix between oriental and occidental style, painted in clear colours, with the use of wood, a beautiful garden full of flowers in bloom. There was also plants on the balconies, all facing the Mekong. Round varnished tables in heavy wood, and comfortable woven armchairs. We came in for a visit, then the French manager (nicknamed Baba) warmly welcomed us. He speaks good English and perfectly Lao. We had the choice between two rooms : one on the ground floor, and one upstairs. Both were perfectly clean, luminous with large windows, bathroom, furnitures, and beautifully decorated. The room downstairs was more spacious, but we took the one on the second level for the panoramic view on the Mekong. Two glasses and a bottle of water on the table, clean towels, white sheets and toilet paper. The bed was excellent, and the pillows delighfully soft. Easy to attach, a large mosquito net was ready to install, and the water under pressure flew normally in the cleaned bathroom. We stayed there four nights, instead of two, because the place was so charming, peaceful and perfectly quiet for holidays. The staff, a Lao woman with her teen daughter were just adorable, helpful, attentive, and smiling. In the morning, we had breakfasts, and the food was tasty : French bread, real butter and quality fruit jam. The drinks were good also, black coffee and Lipton tea mith fresh milk. The guesthouse is well located, only 5 mins walk to the ferry boat, close to many restaurants, bars and shops, and still in a quiet area, surrounded by nature, between the Mekong river and the rice fields. Don Det was so lovely, there, maybe the best experience we had during our tour in Asia !

We stayed four nights at the Pan's Bungalow and had a really pleasant stay. Our bungalow was clean, well-furnished and air-conditioning was working perfectly. Mosquitoes net was impeccable and bed very comfortable. The strong point of this place was the balcony/terrace where we chilled in our hammock and long-chairs overlooking the Mekong river. It is a really a peaceful and quiet place. WiFi signal very strong and reliable (the best we had in one month in Laos). Breakfast was included and pretty delicious with a choice among four set menus. Juice was fresh, coffee was good and the baguette was excellent. They even accepted to offer us a glass of milk when I was not able to drink any tea or coffee. Staff was nice but we didn't really interact with any members, except upon check-in. Location is perfect, on Don Khon Island, very close to many restaurants. We definitely recommend this lovely place.

We stayed for two nights in this lovely hotel. The owner has very good english and is very happy to help. It was great value for money and the pool was an added bonus. This is a very quiet and peaceful island which suited us but if you are looking for any hustle and bustle or bars etc then it isn't the island for you. Also if you are getting the bus from Pakse then I would recommend specifying that you are staying in Muang Khong. We didn't make this clear enough and ended up being taken to the ferry port for Don Dhet and Don Khone, we then had to pay $15 extra for the minibus to take us back up to where we needed to be. I would recommend taking the boat tour round the 4000 islands which is organised by the hotel. It was a lovely journey and you get to spend time on Don Khone where you can hire bikes and explore the island. including the waterfall which is spectacular. Would definitely like to go back to Don Khong and spend longer there next time.

We count ourselves lucky to have chosen this hotel on Don Khong. Our bus ticket from Pakse included a boat across to the island and it was a very easy walk to this hotel. Mr. Phet meet us warmly and gave a cool drink as we signed in before showing us our room which was very comfortable. He also showed us how to find the swimming pool which is at the neighboring hotel. Breakfast was delicious and served in front of the hotel which was delightful. Mr. Phet is a thoughtful and generous person. He demonstrated this when surprised me with a gift of Dok Champa, Laos’ national flower, in a basket for my room as I had admired them the previous day. The only thing to let me down was the air conditioning unit which was so noisy I had to sleep with ear-plugs, perhaps it is time for them to be upgraded.

We stayed here for four nights, and could easily have stayed longer. The accommodation was clean and comfortable, with great river views from the verandah. The food was fantastic. Authentic Laos food. The best we had on our trip, with great flavours. Not made bland to suit 'Western' tastes. The steamed fish in banana leaves is to die for. The service is professional and friendly, and they can help with onward travel. We cannot recommend them highly enough.

We really enjoyed our three night stay at Pan Guesthouse. We were lucky enough to recieve a Bungalow facing the river which was awesome. lt was very hot during our stay, so we were able to take a quick dip in the river just metres away, then lie in the hammock on our verandah as we dried out. lt was so peaceful. Our room was fairly new, and although basic was lovely and very comfortable with a very effective AC. At night, it was calm and quiet, with sound of the water river and the view of stars in the sky. Next door you can rent bicycle and there is a mini mart very close by down the street. Mr Pan is friendly and also owns a restaurant opposite the guesthouse, which serves delicious very cheap food.

One of the best accommodation on the island based on us having explored the entire island on bicycle. Very spacious and clean room fully equipped with working air con and shower facilities. Excellent view of the Mekong river and a good spot to watch sunset. The down stairs Pan's resturant serves good food and they also have one of the better condition island on the island. good location with plenty of F&B outlets surrounding.

I loved staying there and the hotel manager was most kind and helpful in giving me all the information I needed to my trip in good English. The only problem was to get there because there are two island with almost the same name. I was traveling from Cambodia and they simply put me in a boat to Don Kon instead of near the ferry to Don Khong. I had to carry my bag on the sand and back to the mainland and it was very difficult to find a transport because almost no one speaks English and they didn't know what I needed. Then a very nice guy offered to take me on a motorbike and there I was with a bag bigger than a TV set on a motorbike for 15 km till the ferry. On the other side, after crossing the river, again the same situation as the hotel was 3 km on the road and there was no transport. Another nice girl, in her teens offered then to do the same and took me on a motorbike. After I got there I thought it was fun but in the meantime it was a bit stressing. If you go there, plan your transport very carefully!! if possible get a boat on the ferry wharf directly to the door of the hotel. You'll pay a bit more but it's much easier.

We arrived at the guesthouse before 12:00 pm and got our three rooms right away. All rooms had A/C, one no TV. The rooms were spacious enough, the bathrooms clean, hot shower working. Good value for the price in that location, just 100 meters from where you arrive by boat from the left bank of the Mekong River. Included breakfast was quite good with several choices and as much coffee as you like. The young manager running this guesthouse is very helpful and can organize any trip and transfer, charging a reasonable fee. He gave good suggestions what to do/see on the island of Don Khong, and we bought an all-day tour by boat from him, taking us to Si Phan Don (Four Thousand Islands), the cataracts, and back to the guesthouse at the price of per person, which was good value for the money, even though it did not include the admission fees to both of the cataracts (and per person respectively). He also sold us a ride on the public bus to Pakse from right outside the guesthouse at per person. Locals paid less, but that's the way it is in Laos, nothing to get upset about. The bus ride was definitely a very special experience. Should we visit Don Khong again, we will certainly stay at Pon's River Guesthouse again, even though the rooms could do with a little renovation.

We initially booked on Agoda a Deluxe River View Room. On arrival we found there are rooms that are actually right on the river, not just with a view. As the upgrade was quite expensive ($55 for River View, $85 for River Front), for our 1st of three nights we didn't upgrade but for our 2nd and 3rd nights we did and were glad we did. The room was larger and newer and as mentioned, has full unobstructed Mekong views. The rooms could be improved by sealing up some of the large (1/2 inch) gaps around the windows, installing a shower curtain or sliding glass to contain the shower water, and adding some wall hangings or paintings to warm up the room environment. Breakfast was very good and the 3 dinners we had in the restaurant were very good to excellent. All in all, we really enjoyed the hotel and the quiet, sleepy ambiance of Don Khong.

We really enjoyed our stay at Paradise. The bungalow was spacious and comfortable. The free breakfast was amazing! Big portion of pad Thai and free bread, bowl of fruit and juice - was a great way to start the day! Don’t have many comments in terms of improvement other than our drain clogged a bit and we only had cold water in the room. They have a few dogs there which are lovely however one of them chose to stay outside our room on the balcony (very sweet) except would get into barking fits with the other dogs during the night and woke us up a few times during our stay. Not a big deal, but just letting people know it could happen.

Great place with just two basic rooms in a bungalow directly at the Mekong. There are hammocks and matresses in the garden to relax and enjoy the view. The boat trip with Mike was fantastic! He shows you the real 4000 islands and has much knowledge about the region to share with you. We can also recommend the food in the restaurant which is cooked by his wife Tip, who is also very caring and helpful. Thanks for 3 unforgettable days!

We had an excellent stay at this guesthouse, it has a lovely veranda at the back with tables and chairs which over looks the Mekong, the room was spotless. The staff are very helpful, the lady who runs the guest house even gave us a lift when we had a mis-understanding about the meeting place for a boat trip. There is a lady who I think is the mother of the owner who loves it when you say Samidee (hello) and gives you one of the loveliest smiles ever.

Overall a good place to stay on Don Khon. Very spacious bungalow that had two beds and even a dressing table. Definitely more luxurious than your basic super cheap bungalows. Only major downside is that it's not on the river and doesn't have hammocks. But then it'd be far more expensive. Overall Don Khone is pricier than Don Det and I feel like the southern part of Don Det has better value for money and loys of river view accom. Having said that, I've since stayed in far worse bungalows, so I'd still recommend this. :)

I spent three nights at this guesthouse. There are cobwebs in the corners of the room, the bed sheet is too small for the bed and the housekeeping did a poor job. My trash was never taken out of the room during my stay. I had to complain to get the free water that comes with the room. The location is away from any town and the bike I rented had no working brakes. The room was quiet, had good internet, not hot shower and provided laundry at 10M Kip for one kilo. They have a restaurant long the river across from the hotel. If housekeeping were improved I might recommend it.

This hotel clains to have a restaurant and although there is a dining room laid out with table and chairs with a placard above the door reading 'restaurant' we were told that there was no restaurant/food. This meant that two young women had to walk down a dirt road in the pitch black as there were no street lights to get food in the evening. Not safe at all. Our television was broken and even though we reported it nobody bothered to come and fix it. During our time there we did not see a single other guest however were put in a room with a view of a building site and were woken up at 7am by construction works. We decided to leave a night early as the walk for dinner was just to dangerous and not what we had agreed to pay for however the staff who spoke zero English (which is fine) refused to let us leave early and instead, put us on the phone with someone who very rudely told us we could not leave early. Whilst packing out belongings we were interrupted 3 times by the receptionist handing us a phone with another irrate man shouting at us that we couldn't leave. After all of this, the hotel had the audacity to charge both nights to our card. Do not stay here, there are nicer hotels on the river for half the price, friendlier staff (we booked our coach with them) and actually have a restaurant. Bundavong hotel has absolutely no reason for anyone to stay there.

Easy to find-a straight 2min walk down from the boat drop off. Staff limited understanding re pre booking. English isn't great and Didnt approach us when we arrived. Just left us standing until we approached her. Room was fine although the windows leaked down through the floor tiles during a monsoon as my friends bag was wet the next morning. Geckos in the room Didnt bother us however we had to put repellant on before bed as Mozilla appeared for nowhere! Some of the rooms have mosquito nets so. I wouldn't stay here more than a couple of nights, it's a good place to stay if you like western toilets and private bathrooms!
