Traveling to South Korea? Find Gwangju Metropolitan City hotels

We came to Gwangju to attend the Biennale. The hotel location was convenient--only a 5 minute walk from the metro, 1 stop from the airport, and a few stops from downtown. The Kim Dae Jung Convention Center area has little to offer in terms of restaurants or cafés, however. The room was clean, quiet, and we'll-appointed. However, the room and bathroom were separated only by a window with no blind or panel to cover it. This created an awkward lack of privacy!!! Besides this design feature, and the presence of mosquitos the room, no complaints.

I never write reviews but I felt the urge to for this hotel because it was just too good to be true. I usually stay at Ramada Hotel but the price went up in the last couple of years so I decided to try this relatively new hotel and I have to say this hotel was better than a 6 star hotel. So clean and spaciou. I visit Gwangju once a year and this hotel is the choice. Even if this hotel was more expensive than Ramada, choose this hotel. You won't regret it.

The room was very spacious, clean, and good restroom. And good service. But if you are not Korean, I recommend you to use google translator. Staffs are not good at English. I didn't use my car at this time but Parking lot is very good(3 of parking lot) This Hotel is located south of Gwangju city. If you don't have a car you" have to" use taxi or local bus. 10~20 min. away from tourist attractions by bus.

We greatly enjoyed our time there. It's clientele seemed to us to be mostly national, which was fine: that gave it a far more authentic flavor. Above all, we found the staff extremely helpful and friendly. I can't say enough about them. By the by, Gwangju is a fantastic place to visit, filled with history and culture. This was the center of the Baekje kingdom, and anyone interested in Korea needs to make a trip. Don't forget the art museum, and don't forget to stay in Firenze.

I only booked the OxbloodK so I could use it as a "day-room", ie: to drop off my bags so I could attend the Gwangju World Kimchi Festival 2015 for the day, then come back have a quick relax and a shower, then head off on a late bus to Jeonju. For this purpose, it worked perfectly. Probably would have been great to stay overnight too I am sure. The OxbloodK has allot going for it. Great location - it happens to be less than a 5 minute walk from a metro station which is very convenient when there is only one metro line that goes anywhere close to that area, allot of the city is not covered by the metro. Also, the kitchen facilities are quite nice (if compact) and he has lots on offer like coffee, tea, noodles, bread and sometimes fruit etc. The room itself is fine, the bed seemed comfy for a quick rest and the shower/bathroom area was excellent and clean. Very nice, hot shower which is super important to me personally. But the real thing that makes this property great is the manager. He is a super friendly, helpful and patient guy. I had very limited time in town to get to the Kimchi Festival and he helped me work it all out quickly, such as which buses to take and where to transfer etc. He was not burdened by my requirements and happy to answer all of my silly tourist questions. The directions he retrieved worked out perfectly and every piece of advice he gave was bang-on. Here is a guy who knows how to do hospitality right! The only small suggestion I would have for the Oxblood is that some of the common areas have seen better days and could use a little freshening up. The carpets in the hallways in particular were looking a little scrubby and the halls could use a fresh coat of paint. I've seen allot worse for sure but these things need to be updated from time to time. Thanks Oxblood for helping to make my brief visit to Gwangju so very enjoyable!

Taxi driver didnt know the hotel so o suggested to tell them Ramada hotel which located just next door. The hotel decoration was old style but luxious and clean. The heater in the room worked well and they provided everything in the room even lotion n hair spray. It tool around 15 mins to walk to metro but the taxi in Gwangju is cheap and friendly. There were clubs, love hotels and massage palors nearby which seemed dangerous during the night. Many restaurants around at cheap price. Lotte mall was also in a walking distant.

Oasita guesthouse is probably the most beautiful guesthouse I have stayed in Korea! Located in the quieter residential area, it is about 5 minutes walk away from the Asia Culture Complex and the subway station. Even a shorter walk away is the cafe street, on the way to the subway. The main shopping street, known as the Myeongdong of Seoul, is around 10 minutes away. To get to the train station and bus terminal is mostly a subway ride away which makes it a convenient location to travel. The guesthouse is incredibly clean and organized with a guest lounge and a kitchen and dinner room. There are also many sofa areas to rest on (it's a big property!). Awesome place to be staying at!

This hotel was a perfect place to stay. The location was great—right on the bus and subway lines through Gwangju. There were several good (basic) restaurants nearby. The hotel was clean, with great WiFi, AC, showers, and a free toiletries gift bag. Breakfast was very basic but a surprise as it wasn’t advertised. Espresso coffee on demand. Great value for your money—would definitely recommend it!

After a 10 minute walk from the train station I walked down a dim lit alley to find the guesthouse (don't worry though, this is typical for some places in Korea). After entering the guest house I was pleasantly greeted by the owner who gave me a tour and offer me some hot chocolate. She offered to give me a private room and a free upgrade just because it was available, which was awesome! My two night stay there was great and I would recommend people who want to stay in a nice place near the Gwangju Train station and that want to experience a Korean style household! Pedro is such a sweet host who makes a killer breakfast every morning! He was also very friendly and helpful if you have any questions about travelling in gwangju and outside, even providing a travel guide book with directions in the living room. The place was cozy like a house, but during summer when I went, I got many mosquito bites. During down Seasons where there are not many traveller, I did not have to fight for the toilet or had much problems with noise. However if the place was full, I think there would be problems as there are two rooms of 4 and another room of 2, totalling to 10 people to one toilet. I would recommend this place to those looking to spend their time in gwangju as there is a train station 10 mins walk away, but not so much to those going on day trips out of gwangju as you need to take a bus to the bus terminal. All in all, it’s a great value for money place where you can make friends with many other travellers!

I say decent because there was a mix up with my reservation where I had to switch guesthouses for my second night because they hadn't received my booking via Agoda. That was a hassle since I was in Gwangju for such a short time and had to go back and move to another place. That said, the host was kind, spoke English and provided another guesthouse for me to stay in (which included the other host picking me up). (Gwangju Green Guesthouse is where I stayed for the second night and I highly recommend it just to avoid the whole booking fiasco, plus the host was also kind and spoke English). Overall, a decent place to stay.

Great place, really nice and comfortable. The staff of the hotel is great, they really make my stay, but also my work there much easier, because there is not a lot of people who speak English in Gwangju. So they were there to help every step of the way. And I was staying there for 15 days, during the World Aquatic Championship. The owner of a hotel is a nice lady, always taking care that everything functions on the highest levels. Behind the hotel there is a great park for training and running, so that's a great benefit too. Because the only downside of a hotel is that it doesn't have a small gym.
